Religious Tolerance
Religious tolerance means only one thing to me: the ability and willingness to allow others' their beliefs while still clinging to my own. My beliefs are very flexible and extremely eclectic. I was raised Catholic, was a Born-Again Christian for many years, dabbled in Wicca for many years and then fell away from the doctrinated religions to expand and grow in many Eastern philosophies. Most Christians would gently try to persuade me back into the teachings of the Bible and their leader-interpreted meanings. I choose to allow my Inner Guide to interpret meanings for me. All things esoteric are my Bible ... all beliefs hold meaning for me, even those that are considered "alternative."
Jesus taught us that acceptance and love are the keys to living a life that is filled to capacity with goodness. Buddha taught some of the same of the principles, and so did Mohammed and many other prophets of love and peace. Why do these teachings have to be separated and fought over? I am sure that's not what the prophets intended these teachings for. The teachings were meant to unite, not divide. Where there is division, there is chaos and unrest. Where there is unity, there is love and peace. It's simple. Even Jesus told us, "Judge not, lest ye be judged." Mohammed and Buddha and the Dalai Lama teach us the same principles ... but do we listen? Or better yet, do we practice these Spiritual principles?
I hope that all who read this understand that diversity in everything is balance. If there is hope, there is hopelessness. If there is light, there is also darkness. If there is love, there is also hatred. If there is white, there is also black. Where there is yin, there is also yang. Capiché? On a human level, it is difficult to just be. When I meditate in the mornings, my days seem to go more smoothly. There is faith, love and hope in the lack of faith, hatred and hopelessness. Remember this: Everything is an illusion. We are all students and we are all teachers in the journey of Life. Listen with an open heart, hear with open ears, see with open eyes, feel with open Soul ... Life is simple. It's the questions we ask that are complicated.
Peace and Blessings Guide us today.
Namasté.
